Learning — Masomo

We are an English-medium school following the Tanzania national curriculum.

In pre-primary, learning is play-based and builds early reading, writing, numbers and social skills.

In primary, pupils are prepared for the national assessments set by NECTA: the Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA) in Grade IV and the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in Grade VII. You can read about our latest results on our News page.

English is the main language of teaching and communication. Kiswahili (Kiswahili fasaha) is taught as a subject and used to support our youngest learners. Our pupils also learn Chinese.

  • Computer Studies
  • Chinese language
  • Agriculture
  • Art & Craft
  • Daily outdoor play in our safe playground

Children learn by watching and copying. Our teachers model good play all day long – taking turns, being gentle and speaking kindly – and praise children when they do the same. Soon, play becomes a happy way for children to make friends and get along.

We begin with short separation times, so children learn to trust that their parent will come back. Once these short periods feel normal, we slowly make them longer. A comforter from home – a blanket, toy or teddy bear – often helps.

It is normal for a child to cry during the first days at school. It is a natural, healthy response to the love you have given them! When children move up to a new class, we also plan the change around their personality.

Primary pupils get homework suited to their age. Parents receive a progress report at the end of each term and are invited to parents’ meetings to talk about their child’s progress.
